27th Annual Meeting - Copenhagen (Archive, 2015)

The 27th annual meeting of the European Academy of Childhood Disability (EACD) took place from May 27-30, 2015 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The conference was held at the largest event venue in Copenhagen - Tivoli Congress Centre and was opened by H.R.H. Princess Benedikte who is also the patron of the Spastics Association, the Danish Disabled Sports Association and the Helene Elsass Centre.

The first keynote lecture was delivered by Professor Michael Merzenich from UCSF School of Medicine, San Francisco, covering recent developments in the field of Neuroplasticity.

Four main topics were chosen for the meeting which are essential to childhood disability:

  • neuroplasticity
  • nutrition and exercise
  • cognition
  • technology

Among these four topics the conference organisers focussed on novel ideas, research and solutions to both enlighten and inspire participants. This is why the motto of the conference was: New ways, new moves.

During the conference, there was an opportunity to visit Troldemosen, Børneterapien and the Helene Elsass Centre to see how they organise rehabilitation programmes in Denmark.

The conference was attended by 593 delegates from 49 different countries, the majority were from Denmark followed by the other Nordic countries, UK and the Netherlands. Among the participants, there were 257 non-physicians, 105 physicians, 51 students and 45 parents.
